How to Optimize Your Welcome Emails [INFOGRAPHIC] by @wonderwall7…

Dr. IT SEO Services

There are so many crucial parts to the email marketing conversion process, that many marketers tend to think of the process as a whole instead of breaking each part in the process down, bit by bit. That’s why I thought this infographic from Easy STMP was so interesting.

It focuses specifically on welcome emails, which is what a user receives after they subscribe or sign up for your mailing list.

Some of the interesting statistics they pointed out include:

  • Having the word “sale” in the welcome email subject line increases opens by over 23%
  • The word “report” in the subject line decreases opens by almost 24%
  • Using a real person’s email address instead of no-reply is more persuasive
  • Sending the email immediately after the user signs up increases open rate

Here’s the full infographic:

Why Are Web Designers Using Joomla?…

Dr. IT SEO Services

Joomla has taken the web design industry with a storm. Joomla is one of the leading content management systems in the world. A content management system is a software that allows a website owner to update the website content themselves without prior web design or technical skills. Joomla has seen a steady increase in demand as organisations require websites that can be updated on a frequent basis.

Today it is a common practice for businesses to demand websites that can be updated in-house without specialist technical skills. Businesses today understand the importance of content on a website and its impact on search engine ranking. Businesses require complete control over the content on their website and require a system that will allow them to make regular updates. Joomla allows web design companies to meet this challenge by providing powerful content management capabilities to websites.

Joomla provides a competitive advantage

By offering customers websites built with Joomla, a Web design company can gain a competitive advantage over its competitors. Joomla enables a web design company to design websites that are rich with many powerful features which in turn allows businesses to add value to their web presence.

Cost effective and scalable

Joomla has become popular with web design companies all over the world who are using Joomla to design powerful yet easy to use websites for businesses small or large. Joomla enables web designers to provide customers with a powerful and cost effective solution which is easily scalable to future enhancements.

Web designers can use Joomla equally effectively for smaller businesses who have limited budgets. Web designers can use Joomla to develop powerful dynamic websites in a cost effective manner. Web designers are able to develop dynamic websites that would have otherwise been out of reach for smaller due to high cost of development.

Open Source

Joomla is free open source software. Open source software provides web designers and software developers with complete flexibility to modify and enhance the system to suit specific requirements of a business. It does not limited designers and developer in any way who have full control over the code.

Joomla is Easy to use

Joomla is easy to understand and use. Unlike many other web and software applications, Joomla is easy to install and use. It can be hosted easily on most web hosting infrastructure. Web designers without knowledge of programming are also able to use Joomla with ease.

Joomla has an established community on the Internet

Joomla has a large established community on the internet. Information and tutorials are easy to find and there are many specialist blogs and forums that cater to the Joomla web design and development community. Resources are easy to find and access on the internet. The wide availability of a large selection of free add-on modules and components for Joomla further offers the opportunity to include many new features. A web designer can save time by using add-on modules and components to offer new powerful features on websites.

The time saved can be used to focus on other important issues that would have otherwise been overlooked. With practice Joomla can significantly reduce the development time of a project.

Joomla has been developed by experienced web designers and programmers who have already addressed most important factors into the software. Vital security and design issues have also been addressed and incorporated.

Training and resources are easily available

There are many tutorials and developer documentation freely available for use online. Web design companies find it easy to train their team in Joomla with the help of such readily available resources. There are many active Forums and Blogs specific to Joomla where technical queries can be posted and a quick response or support is usually available free of charge.

6 Stupid Marketing Metrics That Need to Die…

Dr. IT SEO Services

Way too often—at least several times a week—I’m amazed by the things that some marketers are still measuring.

Maybe they don’t know any better. Maybe some are just married to legacy metrics that were once logical but now just need to die.

Inspired by Rachel Sprung’s recent post on pointless marketing metrics, I’ve come up with my own list of pet-peeve marketing metrics and reasons they’re probably doing your campaigns more harm than good.

1. Facebook Likes

Once upon a time, even rational marketers considered buying Facebook fans. The opportunity to get in front of such an audience—they would see your organic content over and over and over again—was just too tempting.

Those days are long over.

Last spring, the alarm was sounded for brands: organic Facebook reach for Pages was rapidly trending toward zero. And that’s exactly what happened. Many brands are now reporting less than 1% engagement with their fan base via organic content.

What’s the point in measuring people who Liked your page at some point if they aren’t even seeing your content? There could be 100 or 1 million of them… you still need ads or ridiculously powerful content marketing to reach them now on Facebook.

Still, some marketers point to increases in fan count as a social media KPI as though it will make a comeback. And someone must be buying those Page Likes, because an awful lot of people are still selling them. Just stop… Stick a fork in it, this one’s done.

2. Display Ad Impressions

It’s important to understand how many people actually saw your ads, right?

Unfortunately, impressions—the metric that display ad marketers relied on for so long—doesn’t give you a clue about how many people actually viewed your ad.

Way back in November 2013, we learned that about one-third of your ad impressions weren’t actually viewable. That’s pretty bad, right? Now it’s over 56%!

Source: Google

That’s right, over half of your ad “impressions” aren’t even being seen by anyone.

So stop using impressions as a yardstick for campaign reach. Instead, measure lower-funnel metrics, such as actual clicks and conversions.

3. Keyword Rankings

Keyword rankings are the insatiable, brain-munching zombie of marketing metrics. They just won’t stay dead.

So many factors have made keyword rankings completely useless—personalization, geo-location, changes in the search algorithm, etc. And those aren’t even new!

This shift has been happening over a period of years, yet some marketers still march out rankings for specific keywords at reporting time like they actually mean something.

Ditch the security blanket. Keyword rankings are done.

4. Anything to Do With Referred vs. Direct vs. Organic Segmented Traffic

This whole notion of segmenting referred, direct, and organic traffic, and using it as some kind of performance indicator, needs to die.

If you’re in SEO, you’re basically shooting yourself in the foot by using those metrics.

Rand Fishkin wrote and talked about this extensively in 2013, and what he predicted has played out pretty much as he said it would. In a keyword referral-less world, where both mobile traffic and organic search traffic are characterized as direct, attempting to use these metrics to measure or validate SEO efforts is just silly.

There are a lot of logical reasons why browsers won’t report exactly where traffic came from, but the bottom line is you can’t rely on the segmentation of referral data as a KPI. At all.

Groupon showed the extent of this problem in an experiment it ran last summer. The company deindexed its entire site for six hours—and instead ended up losing 60% of its supposedly “direct” site traffic!

Image from SearchEngineLand.com

So you still think SEO isn’t working? Understand that much of what you attribute to direct navigation is probably SEO and content marketing efforts at work. Don’t sabotage your own efforts by discrediting them with what is crappy segmentation reporting.

5. PageRank

Are we even still talking about this? Why are we still talking about this?!

The last time Google updated the PageRank toolbar (in 2013), it was by accident. That alone should give you a pretty good idea of how high it is on Google’s priority list.

Once upon a time, PageRank was probably a pretty good indicator of site quality, but the search algorithm has moved so far beyond this archaic metric that it’s crazy anyone still takes it seriously.

(I’m thinking of starting a support group for people who can’t get over PageRank. You don’t want to be in it, trust me…)

6. Most of Google Webmaster Tools

Google Webmaster Tools is great for some purposes, but really awful for others; getting any kind of real numbers for the metrics there falls under the latter category.

The numbers in Google Webmaster Tools are all based on estimates that are accurate to +/- 500%, according to my own internal analysis.

How do I know? Because you can compare some of the numbers with what is actually in your Google Analytics or Google AdWords account. When you do, you’ll see that the two sets are totally different.

It works in the same way as the Google AdWords Keyword Planner. The volumes and CPCs are just estimates and are similarly accurate to within +/- 500%.

Why would you put any stock in those numbers? It’s OK to use the data for trending purposes, but don’t make the mistake of thinking of the numbers are real and accurate in an absolute sense. They’re just estimates.

Why These Metrics Are So Silly (and Dangerous)

Aside from being irritating, these metrics (and the attention many marketers give them) are dangerous. Why? Because the more you focus on metrics that simply don’t matter, the less attention you’re paying to metrics that will yield actionable insights into your marketing efforts.

Think of it this way. If a marketer is obsessed with “improving” their impression volume, but most of their ads aren’t even being seen, they’re going to miss opportunities because they’re looking the wrong way. In time, this leads to a “death spiral” of misplaced attention; the longer you focus on irrelevant metrics like those above, the further and further away you move from the metrics that do matter. Before you know it, you’re trying desperately to justify content or advertising that isn’t doing anything simply because you’ve spent too long looking at the wrong benchmarks for success. By this point, it might be too late to reverse course.

So that’s it. My pet-peeve marketing metrics. Which metrics do you wish the industry would kick to the curb?

Nine Homepage Considerations For Web Designers…

Dr. IT SEO Services

The professional web designer it responsible for creating an effective website for it’s owner and of all the pages on a website none is more important than the homepage. The homepage of a website is normally the one which a person lands on, or visits quickly after landing on another page. The perspicacious web designer will therefore spend more time thinking and designing this page than any other on the site. University research into Human Computer Interaction (HCI) has identified several recurring themes that need to be addressed by any person undertaking web design.

Enabling Access

Research has shown that most web users will return to the home page even if they land on a page within the site. It is important therefore to make the users navigation to the home page as effortless as possible. Many pages on a website use the logo in the top left hand corner of a web page to take people to the homepage. However it has been found that not all users are always aware of this fact, especially novice users. It is advisable therefore to have a link labelled home to help those particular users.

Display All Options

The sagacious web site designer knows that you should present all major options that are available on the home page of a website. If the web design relies on the user clicking several times in order to find out the full extent of the site then the web design is fundamentally flawed. So when creating the home page think about the major sections of the site and ensure that the appropriate links are on the homepage.

First Impressions Count

What ever it is, people tend to make there minds up very rapidly and quite often for trivial reasons on the first impression they get from landing on a site. You might have highly relevant important content on your website but if the user is put off by your presentation on the home page the user will never discover it because they have moved on rapidly. You never get a second chance in these matters so invest time in the web design for the home page and create a good impression. Furthermore, it is best not to rely on your own judgement, produce several options through a variety of designs and get independent people to assess if you have accomplished your design intentions.

State Your Purpose

When surfing the web quite often I come across a site and I do not understand what the sites purpose is and the effect of that is usually to navigate away to a different site. Consequently the savvy web design will clearly state, in no uncertain terms, it’s raison d’etre. It is important not to rely on web users to read a lot of text to determine what the site is about – a visitor will make quick decisions not long and informed decisions Be clear, be brief, tell the user what the site can do for them.

Limit Prose

Given that it has already been established that a web design should display all the major options available and state the sites purpose, one must remember that brevity is key. The amount of prose on a home page should therefore be limited otherwise the homepage will rapidly bloat into something where the user will be put off because of the amount of reading that is required for them to find what they are looking for. Keep it to major headings and link titles is the insightful web designers brief.

Does It Look Like A Home Page

We all know what a home page looks like don’t we? So make sure the home page looks like a home page. Many graphic designers like breaking the rules, presumably because they can and it makes them feel as if they are different from the rest. However they are doing this to the detriment of the users browsing experience. An effective web page is one where a user can find things in the usual place – so place things in the usual place.

Limit Page Length

Research has shown that users don’t like scrolling. Consequently an astucious web design will therefore try to limit page length and importantly place the most relevant items towards the top of the page. If you think about it for a while and view your design from the users perspective – would you really scroll a web page you had just landed on on the off chance that what you are seeking was hidden at the bottom of the screen?

Display Recent Changes

If the web site has changed a canny web design will tell the user that on the home page. There are various reason for incorporating this feature into the home page ranging from not surprising the user before they navigate users, or to get existing users to visit the new pages.

Consider Panel Width

Page and panel width issues can be the better noir of many web designs. The width of panels on a web page seems to be essential for assisting users comprehend the overall layout of a website. In one research based study, participants rarely selected the information in the left panel because they did not understand that it was intended to be a left panel. In a follow up study, the panel was made slightly narrower, which was more consistent with other left panels on other websites experienced by users. The newly designed left panel was used more.

If you are undertaking a web design for your client or you are a client employing a web designer then make sure the above points are adhered to for a successfully homepage design.

Climate Change – The Real Deal…

Dr. IT SEO Services

It was in the spring of 2011 which was long remembered by the scale and horror of many violent tornadoes that tore through the Midwest and parts of the eastern United States. With the massive flooding of the Mississippi River in Illinois all the way to New Orleans created a catastrophic disaster. It seems like every spring has seen its share of storms where torrential rain causes immense suffering and loss of life. Once again we have drought conditions in many areas of our country and through out the world.

We realized that climate change increases the risk of hostility and conflict. The sea level rise today already cover the coastal landscapes around the world forcing people to leave their homes. In general, we are seeing migration, while due to the rising waters forced. This migration of refugees of climate change continues to grow each year. With drought conditions worsen shortages have become the strongest fresh water and food. Consequently, there has been and still is an increased competition for remaining resources never there. And this increased competition continues to exacerbate tensions, not only in all the countries concerned but throughout the world.

To understand the impact of climate change today is that one of its consequences has led to instability in Nigeria. This instability, now operated by the terrorist group Boko Haram continues to exasperate economic conditions worsen and throughout Africa. The drought and subsequent food shortages not only rising food prices intensified, has helped fuel the riots in early Syria. Today, with the country torn by civil war and the rise of ISIS caused serious risks, not only for the global economy, but has also had disastrous effects on humanity as well.

In the US, it has not been since 1920 in this country has experienced such devastation of nature in many places in a short period of time. Following all this devastation left much of the United States almost helpless. Too many lives lost, so much destruction, and many livelihoods in ruins was the result. Today, nature in all its fury unleashed chaos and destruction that continues to shake that nation. Man-induced climate change is attributed to a global quagmire of misery and death?

Throughout the centuries mankind has continued to upset the balance of nature. Man laid the foundation for the natural disasters that have transformed our world. Each nation is guilty of some environmental atrocity of one kind or another. Voluntarily or not the man continues to pollute, destroy, steal and our environment without worrying about the consequences of our actions, inactions and now to facilitate the devastation. To speculate that the Earth goes through its normal cycle of climate change as the reason why there are so many homes storms, longer droughts, earthquakes or massive flooding is too casual.

Monetary restrictions imposed by the reactions always change in the environment caused by human interference. The tragedies of humanity are imbued with blatant disregard for the environment, nature and all the inhabitants of the earth. Even with all the currently available more pollution than any other period of history is continuously discharged into our rivers, streams, lakes and oceans causing catastrophic damage to marine life technology, people from coast, all economies around the world . The need is very obvious, the technology is available, and resources can be provided to eliminate global pollution that threatens our very existence.

What it has happened since the arrival of the first industrial revolution in which man continues to drain the oil fields, groundwater deposits of coal and other minerals, which is a parody of our planet. Our continued reliability of fossil fuels on earth creates large gaps that contribute to the movement of earth plates along the lithosphere resulting from earthquakes, tsunamis, and even sink holes that cause terrible damage man and the nature. We also have to realize what humanity has done to the tropical forests of the Amazon. Destruction and almost total annihilation of the greatest resources of the stability of Earth’s climate, now it has become the greatest threat of the planets climate instability.

To not capitalizing the already abundant, automatic replenishment, and environmental sources of renewable energy humanity has made the land can not remain stable. Of course, the planet has experienced throughout the history of climate change, but mans continued escalation of fossil fuel consumption only increases and accelerates a change in the climate of the earth. When the weather changes drastically in a relatively short time period of great upheavals they have always happened. Worldwide, more frequently and with greater intensity have become. Always in the most horrible human suffering, nature and the environment and it is almost powerless to restore stability. All this while the costs to restore balance and stability today far exceeds the cost that would have been spent to prevent such disasters from happening in the first place.

All that is needed is the will of nations once and for all band together to solve the climate of the earth is directly related and influenced by human interference. To curb the acceleration of global warming, end the catastrophic pollution, and restore our depleted forests every nation must help restore the delicate balance of the earth. This, for humanity now be able to end the massive human suffering that causes more aggression and destabilization of nations worldwide-out. All this can be done using the technology available today. By making the sources of the first and second electrical obsolete industrialization is the fastest way to restore stability worldwide. The availability of solar, wind, hydro electric, magnetic energy and other green energy sources are easily available now. All that is needed is the political will to make them more accessible and affordable. The ability to restore the balance of nature on earth is at hand. And doing so could only alleviate many human tragedies that have placed man about to fall back into the caves of the Neanderthals.

The Components of ECommerce Web Design…

Dr. IT SEO Services

In the world of business, eCommerce solutions are vital if you plan to succeed. This is especially true when it comes to eCommerce Web Design, and if you look deep enough, you will clearly see that there are a few different components to the web design process. Finding a good company is only part of the battle, and with that being said, let’s look at the three different parts of developing a webpage for your business.

Design

The design process is anything but simple. What should your webpage look like? How should you go about implementing the features you want? When you look at other pages on the internet, you should attempt to figure out how you are going to either match or exceed their standards. Neither one of these is going to be easy, but they can be achieved if you simply keep trying.

One of the most important things you can do is ensure that you are using up to date technology. Creating a website that utilizes Flash, CSS, and other updated technologies will allow users to view and load the page quickly. It should be noted that the only downside to using CSS is that losing the format file will result in a breakdown of the pages themselves. They will still be accessible of course, but they will not really be useable. Rather than using this as excuse to avoid using CSS, use it as a reason to secure the server properly.

Development

Your eCommerce web design will require the professional touch, to say the least. In other words it will become very important for you to ensure your web designer knows what they are doing, and understands how your website will stack up against others in the same industry. This is one of the more important eCommerce solutions, and your web designer will need to know all of the different languages, protocols, and even hardware. The general idea is to create a webpage that meets modern standards, but that will also run on some of the older computers. In addition to older computers, it is critical to ensure that it runs on mobile browsers. Creating a mobile website will require a bit of skill, and it should be noted that both feature phones and smart phones are still in use.

Search Engine Optimization

The third and final component to take into account is Search Engine Optimization. SEO is a tool you can use to draw traffic and even convert that traffic into sales if the right keywords are used. Search engines use crawlers to index webpages, and they will index those pages according tot he keywords. In choosing keywords, it is important to ensure that relevant keywords are used as haphazardly applying keywords for the wrong product or service will cause a page to be delisted.

Your eCommerce solutions will be both complex and simple at the same time, believe it or not. There are many things to consider when you are attempting to build a brand, especially in the online world. There are many other websites out there vying for the attention of the customers, and you are just one. Take this to heart and make sure you do not slack on the design process. If you play your cards right, it won’t be long before you have all the customers and business you need!

How Can Local SEO Boost Your Local Business?

Dr. IT SEO Services

Local SEO is an essential marketing strategy if you’re a brick-and-mortar company with services or products of a local nature. If your clients are all local, then you should prefer local SEO to vanilla SEO. Local SEO is a myriad of techniques that are used by website owners to compete for highest rankings for local searches in their area of business for specific keywords related to their products and services.

For e.g. If you’re a doctor in a city, your customer demographic will entail mostly people from your city and not from the country as a whole. Google, with its launch of Local SEO algorithms has made it abundantly clear that local business have a special place and it is not in international SEO. They must divert their efforts to focus on local SEO instead.

Local SEO can turn the tables for any local business. If you’re looking to build a huge customer base, you must find a reputable local SEO firm that can handle your business needs. When your website pops out in results for other cities, those results are practically wasted because these visitors won’t convert to actual sales after all. It is the local clients you want, and this new trend could help you easily capitalize and build a better clientele.

If you’re a small business, Local SEO works better for you, rather than multinationals. It will definitely increase the popularity of your business, get you customer reviews and feedback for free and help new prospects locate you easily. When you initially start local SEO, your primary focus must be less used keywords which are longer, commonly known as long-tail keywords in the industry. These keywords can be easily ranked for and will start bringing you a trickle of traffic easily without much effort. Once you’ve got these out of the way, you can focus on more lucrative, harder to rank keywords. While these will take time and effort, the wait is usually well rewarded with leads and sales.

For local SEO to work out as you intend, your website must be optimized to the hilt for Google to understand where you are located and the nature and extent of services you offer. The local component of your business, which is the city or locality must be present in either the domain name, the website title or the content and if possible, in all of them. This ensures maximum visibility. If you hire a local SEO firm be sure to talk it over to understand their goals for your business and the efforts their willing to put in. Quite a few campaigns disappear into the dark without any sales or leads just because there was no plan of execution.

Another important factor is the main keyword, which can be included in the business name for online marketing purposes. While the name may sound generic, it will give you a better head start than most of your competitors have had and will get you leads and sales faster than anyone else. For example, if you’re a bakery in a city named Bartholomew, you could have your online business name as Bartholomew Bakery ending with the city name. The name sounds generic, but will help you greatly as you expand your local SEO efforts. This is a powerful, ingenious SEO strategy which is overlooked mostly, and can be your secret weapon to monopolize your rankings in your city.

Your website can also do well by having your name, address and phone number, NAP as we call it in the industry on every page, placed conveniently at a place easily visible to your clients. This is valuable, both from an SEO point of view and from the client’s. You client must not have to fidget about on the website to find a way to contact you and Google must at all times be referenced to your physical address and number so that it knows whom to related the contents of the page to. The best place for this information is in the header or the footer, the former being preferable. Your address helps create trust with the user. How many times have you seen an office address being prominently displayed on every page of the website? This is something that user need and if you deliver, helps them believe you. If you’re willing to take a step further, you can also have a Google Maps placed with your location in it which furthers your cause and helps your prospects easily find your location.

Modern psychology explains that a buyer goes through a variety of different phases before actually making a purchase. You’ll have to be sure to target buyers in the right phase. Your keywords must be carefully selected to get only those people who are serious about purchasing the products or services you are selling. Window shopping is prevalent on the internet too, and you’ll not be happy with having those kinds of visitors to your website. To go about it, put yourself in the customer’s shoes and think of what they’d search for if they were looking for your services. This is process of elimination. Rooting out the wasted keywords can exponentially increase your sales and reduce your efforts all at once. This task is a must and can only be done by you, who has deep insight into your market.

These tasks are time-taking and must be done by an expert. Be sure to hire a local SEO firm of repute with a long list of clients who’ve seen success in their campaigns. The best way would be to talk around in your neighborhood and ask for references from people who’ve profited from local SEO and have seen a good number of clients being referred from their online presence.

While the above points don’t fully encompass the soul of local SEO, they are a good starting point and definitely bring in some sales to encourage you to dive in further. Implement these points efficiently and see your clientele grow, steadily but surely.

What is SEO? SEO, also known as search engine optimization, is the process of improving the volume or quality of traffic to a website from search engines via natural search results. The earlier your site appears in the search results, the more visitors it will receive from the search engines.

SEO is more than just placing keywords on your website. You may get some results by doing so, but the result will not last. A good SEO strategy focuses on building the popularity of a website in Google’s eyes. It is a continuous process and a SEO consultant can be a great help to you.

There are many benefits of hiring a SEO consultant. In this article, let me share with you some reasons why you need to hire a SEO consultant for your company:

1. Experience. A professional SEO consultant has years of experience in the search marketing industry. He or she will be able to give you the right advices and implement the right strategies to bring your website to the top. They have also worked on numerous SEO projects and know the ins and outs of how search engine algorithm works. Ethical consultants will not use black-hat SEO methods to optimize your website so that search engines will not ban your site.

2. They can utilize pre-existing relationships. Experienced consultants will utilize their pre-existing relationships inside the SEO industry to generate press releases and articles distribution that will help increase the popularity of your website in Google’s eyes.

3. They are competent in solving SEO problems. Experienced consultants have the expertise to identify and solve any SEO issues. By fixing problems fast and early, you can get your optimization campaign back on track.

4. Link building expertise. Link building is the most important process of SEO. Without a good link building strategy, it is very difficult to get your website to the top of search engines. Professional consultants will have the necessary link building expertise to identify popular forums, communities, directories and blogs to build links.

5. Save time. Link building is an extremely time consuming and tedious process. It will take up a lot of time if the task is done in house. You should spend your time on things that you do best. An experienced SEO consultant has all the systems ready for optimization and they can use their experience to provide better service in lesser time.
